About Me

Auto Repairs and Servicing

Hello, my name is Walter. Over the past few months, I have been working on my car. I never used to think much about my car. I would just jump into it and hit the road. Things were fine at first, but soon I realised that things were starting to go wrong. Strange white smoke started to appear from the exhaust. Sometimes when I changed gear, I could hear a strange noise. Foolishly, I ignored all of this until my car broke down. When I got to the auto repair shop the mechanic repaired my car and then gave it a full service. As he did so, I began my auto servicing education.

How to Build a Great Relationship With Your Mechanic

by Margie White

Many people dread a visit to the mechanic because they associate it with high repair costs and long periods without their car. It is true that there are mechanics out there who tend to take advantage of customers and make them pay excessive amounts for repairs. However, the vast majority of mechanics are honest and hardworking professionals who aim to get you back on the road as quickly as possible.

Most issues between mechanics and customers arise from misunderstandings between the two parties. It is therefore important for you to know how to develop a healthy relationship with your car mechanic.

Loyalty is key

To establish a healthy relationship with your mechanic, consider returning to their auto shop anytime you need services done to your car. If the mechanic offers high quality services, great pricing and excellent customer service, visiting them several times can help establish a strong relationship.

Trust your mechanic

Many issues that surround customers and mechanics arise from trust. Sometimes a repair job seems simple at first, and ends up becoming more complicated during the process.

If your mechanic informs you that additional complications came up, you should try to trust their word and heed their advice. At the same time, be wary of the few unscrupulous mechanics who may be trying to extort you.

Don't be too strict on the price

Some auto repair work can get very expensive, depending on the extent of damages on the vehicle. If your mechanic gives you a clear and detailed estimate of the work that needs to be done, don't be quick to complain about the high prices.

Some services such as engine repair, bodywork and suspension repair are generally expensive. Instead of complaining about pricing, work with the mechanic to develop a payment plan for the services.

Be patient

In many cases, customers tend to rush the mechanic to complete extensive repairs in a short amount of time. This often leads to unrealistic expectations. Give your mechanic time to complete the repairs on your car.

Understand that they are working on multiple cars at the same time, and it may take some time to get to your specific vehicle.

Give positive reviews and referrals

Mechanics are always happy to get new customers. If you refer your friends and colleagues to your mechanic, you'll also be improving your relationship with your mechanic.

Giving your mechanic more business is a great way of establishing a healthy relationship.
