Auto Repairs and Servicing

Hello, my name is Walter. Over the past few months, I have been working on my car. I never used to think much about my car. I would just jump into it and hit the road. Things were fine at first, but soon I realised that things were starting to go wrong. Strange white smoke started to appear from the exhaust. Sometimes when I changed gear, I could hear a strange noise. Foolishly, I ignored all of this until my car broke down. When I got to the auto repair shop the mechanic repaired my car and then gave it a full service. As he did so, I began my auto servicing education.

The Importance of Having Your Car Air Conditioning Checked By a Professional

by Margie White

Having access to an air conditioning system during the hot summer months is almost necessary. One of the places where you most benefit from your air conditioning system is your car. That box of closed metal can get really hot when the sun is shining. Almost all cars produced today come with built-in air conditioning. If the air conditioning in your car is starting to lose its power, it might be time to have it looked at by a professional. The reason to why you should consider having this done isn't just to keep enjoying cool air in your car when it's hot outside; it's also better for your car.

How it works

The air conditioning in your car loses a little bit of its power every year. Like any part of your vehicle, it needs to be looked after and taken care of from time to time to function as well as possible. It's not part of the standard service that many shops offer; therefore, you might have to keep track of it yourself. Many HVAC companies offer services for restoring the air conditioning in your car. It is recommended to have it regassed once every 1-2 years to keep it in peak condition.

The procedure isn't very complicated. The old refrigerator gas and oil from the air conditioning system is removed to keep it clean, and then it's filled up with new refrigerants. Some companies also offer to de-bug your air conditioning system to free it from bacterial buildup. They can also check for cracks in your system to make sure there isn't any leakage causing your air condition system to malfunction. Fluids and gas leaking into other systems in your car can also cause other things to malfunction.

Why it's important

A malfunctioning air conditioning system can increase the amount of fuel being used when you're driving since it puts a strain on the engine when one system is struggling. Getting your air conditioning system checked out can thus save you money for gas.

De-bugging your air conditioning could also benefit your own health. Having your air conditioning system cleaned from mould and bacteria will clean the air that you're breathing in from the air conditioning. If cleaning the system isn't standard procedure for the company that you hire to fix your air conditioning, you should ask them if they can do it anyway, or find a car air conditioning service that does offer this type of service.
